Ten campuses, five medical facilities, and three linked national laboratories make up the University of California system. The administrative center for the university is the Office of the President in Oakland, California.

In order to promote enrolment of African students seeking advanced legal education at the University of California, Berkeley, the African Legal Impact Scholarship was created.

The African Legal Impact Scholarship can only be awarded to two deserving candidates each year because of a severe lack of funding.
