IAU Masters Scholarships 2022 Application Update

The International Astronomical Union is a voluntary organization that seeks to advance astronomy in all spheres, especially through fostering international collaboration in astronomical research, outreach, education, and development. It is headquartered in Paris, France, and was established in 1919.

In 2024, Cape Town, South Africa, will play home to the 32nd General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) (GA2024).

The General Assembly will be convened in Africa for the first time in the IAU’s more than 100-year existence, which presents a unique chance to highlight the continent’s cutting-edge research infrastructure and top-notch scientific expertise.

The Africa 2024 scholarships will pay for all expenses related to studying abroad, including tuition, one international round-trip ticket, visa fees, medical insurance, housing costs, and stipend.

The chance to volunteer at the General Assembly 2024 will also be advantageous to scholarship applicants because it will allow them to network with other members of the international astronomy community.

Aim and Benefits of IAU Masters Scholarships

1. A single return air ticket will be covered for international students awarded the scholarship. The GA2024 NOC will cover the cost of visas for study.

2. The Africa 2024 scholarships will cover international student fees, one international return flight, visa costs, medical insurance, accommodation, and stipend.

3. In addition, scholarship recipients will benefit from the opportunity to volunteer at the General Assembly 2024, giving them an opportunity to interact with the global astronomy community.

Requirements for IAU Masters Scholarships

1. Candidates from any African country are eligible to apply for Astronomy in Africa scholarships.

2. Applicants must be eligible to register for a MSc degree at a South African university specialising in astrophysics/astronomy.
